Morrison Hotel Launches Ocean-Themed Exhibit Based on ‘100 Foot Wave’

Morrison Hotel Gallery is expanding its archive of rock n’ roll imagery into fine art photography: On January 13, the gallery will launch “The New Wave,” a collection of oceanic imagery inspired by and in association with HBO’s Emmy-winning documentary series “100 Foot Wave,” produced by Amplify Pictures, Library Films, and Topic Studios.

A combination of ocean and music-themed works, “The New Wave Collection” was curated by Morrison Hotel Gallery’s creative director Timothy White and showcases previously unreleased photographs by Tim McKenna, Fred Pompermayer, Helio Antonio, Laurent Masurel, Erik Aeder, and others. Following the event, the exhibit will remain on display at Morrison Hotel Gallery in Culver City, Calif., with works available for purchase at the event as well as the online exhibition via morrisonhotelgallery.com.

“For years, Morrison Hotel Gallery has been recognized for presenting iconic imagery capturing the essence of rock ‘n roll,” said Adam Block, CEO, Morrison Hotel Gallery. “In 2024, we embrace the ethos of rock n roll — its energy, its expressiveness — and celebrate it in the power and poetry of the sea, surfers and the rockstar photographers who bring their unique talents to making this magnificent art.”

Executive producer and Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis added, “100 Foot Wave is so excited to partner with Morrison Hotel Gallery on this incredible collection. If the essence of big wave surfing and rock and roll itself is artists challenging themselves to go beyond their limits and push their mediums to new heights, there isn’t a better home for them to come together. We can’t wait to see these waves on display in the natural, larger-than-life form in which they’re meant to be seen.”
